Who said it was just for kids?

There is something beautiful about children's films, here are two I cannot wait for.

The trailer for the new Burton film Frankenweenie has my heart. Stop motion animation + black and white = perfection. Tim Burton, you have done it again.

ParaNorman, more fantastic stop motion animation fun. It's so refreshing to see a change from 'plain old' CG movies. Haha. I find there's something more accessible and almost 'handcrafted' about them.

Inspired

Into The Treasure Box Paula Mills Inspiration
Into The Treasure Box Paula Mills Paula Mills is an illustrator living in Melbourne, Australia. After a career in Art Direction, she 'found her home in illustration.' I love her detailed drawings and use of ink pens, as well as her technique of making mixed media illustration look clean cut and polished without losing it's traditional hand drawn look. You can purchase prints of Paula's artwork here.

A piece of design I absolutely… LOVED

The sixty-second countdown animation to the start of the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies. Photographs and video clips of numbers seen around London, edited into a countdown, a really effective animation that captured my attention, before the ceremony had even started. I love photography and I'm fascinated by details, like door numbers, that are generally overlooked.
If you didn't see it, you can watch the clip here.

Book Shopping

I feel slightly cheated that I've been visiting Covent Garden for years and have never discovered Magma. I love books of all kinds, but art and design books are particular favourites of mine. I spotted some of my favourite books and magazines on the shelves, but the most interesting new-to-me book that I picked up, was Little Big Books: Illustration for Children's Picture Books. I have always been fascinated by the illustrations in children's books - and there are some lovely examples of such in this book, with a wide variety of styles. I prefer the more traditional hand-drawn images, but the whole book is fabulous.
